Is a CO₂ generator really effective?

A CO₂ generator can be very effective - but only if the conditions are right. In an optimally equipped indoor grow 10-30% more growth and yield realistic. In many setups, however, it brings almost nothing, because CO₂ without suitable Light intensity, temperature, humidity and CO₂ dosage cannot be used sensibly.

What is a CO₂ generator?

A CO₂ generator increases the CO₂ concentration in the grow environment (grow box / room) so that plants have more „building material“ for photosynthesis. More CO₂ can lead to:

  • faster growth

  • larger leaves and stronger vitality

  • higher yields during flowering

  • better stress resistance

lead - if the plant is not limited by other factors.

Why does more CO₂ bring more yield?

Plants absorb CO₂ through their leaves and use it for photosynthesis. In normal indoor air, CO₂ is usually around 400-450 ppm. Under strong indoor lamps, CO₂ can quickly become a limiting factor.

➡️ This is why professional indoor cultivation often relies on 1,000-1,500 ppm CO₂ enriched.

Common mistakes: Why CO₂ doesn't work for many people

CO₂ is often of little use in a grow tent because it is directly drawn out of the tent by excessive exhaust air or the plants cannot utilise the extra CO₂ at all if the light output and climate are not right. Poor distribution is also a typical mistake, as CO₂ tends to collect at the bottom without air movement and does not reach the leaves evenly. In addition, CO₂ is sometimes applied at the wrong time (e.g. in dark phases) or it is overdone according to the motto „a lot helps a lot“, which is rather inefficient. Ultimately, CO₂ is not a miracle cure, but works particularly well if the basics such as light, temperature, humidity and air circulation have already been properly optimised.

The right solution for more Co2!

The new Co2 generator from Bonsanto covers precisely these points. A light sensor releases Co2 only during the light cycle, making it 50% more economical than conventional Co2 bags. Thanks to the extra “bags“, not too much Co2 is released, which is harmful to the plant, but in a good dose. The generator can be used again and again thanks to the interchangeable bags and can be used in different grow boxes.

How does the Co2 generator work?

Thanks to the light sensor, CO₂ is only produced when the light is switched on, reducing consumption by up to 50%.

Why doesn't CO₂ make a difference for many growers?

CO₂ is often removed directly by strong exhaust air or it is not distributed evenly, which means that the plants hardly benefit from it.

When does CO₂ really pay off in a grow?

CO₂ is particularly worthwhile with strong lighting and a controlled climate, as otherwise plants hardly utilise the additional CO₂.
